My name is Chris. I am in my late forties, live in Massachusetts, and have been battling with nasal problems for decades. I have some of my symptoms under control, but In the past several years I have developed extremely dry nasal passages. The problem becomes unbearable in the winter when the heat needs to be turned on. It takes no more than a few minutes in a dry, heated environment for the torture to begin. I get pain, headaches, and if I am not careful, a bloody nose. It can take me several days to recover if I stay in such an environment for just a few hours. This has severely impacted my health, my work, and my home life.
I have found some solutions that have worked for me. At home I use a large humidifier that can handle multiple rooms, up to 1,900 square feet. This has been awesome. I can usually keep the humidity up high enough that keeps the pain and headaches away. Although, when it gets really cold out the heat is on so much that the humidifier has a hard time keeping up.
My two big remaining challenges are work and commuting. Work gets so dry that the relative humidity drops below 20% (literally drier than many deserts). I have tired several types of humidifiers at my desk and saline sprays, so far nothing that works well. Even if I did have something that worked at my desk, I need a solution for the occasional long meeting.
Commuting to work is another bit of torture. Turning on the heat really is not an option. About my only choice is to bundle up extra warm and suffer in the cold. This is much more preferable than the pain and headaches. I am not going to put up with this suffering any more and I am going to do something about it.
I have worked in developing new products for over a decade and I have decided to take my skills and focus it on solving a problem near and dear to my heart. I am working several ideas and hope to have a solution soon.
